On February 24, 2022, Russia attacked independent Ukraine. Today marks four years since that day. This senseless war has brought immense suffering and forced millions of Ukrainians to flee their homes.
On this significant day, our thoughts are with Ukraine and all those enduring the consequences of this conflict. We express our profound admiration for those fighting in various ways for the freedom and independence of their homeland, often shedding blood in defense of the highest values. We also stand by Ukrainian creators in their quest to preserve the heritage of their nation.
In these times, the words from Vasyl Slapchuk’s latest novel resonate with particular strength:
“— Do you often dream of war? — It can be a literary battlefield. — Literature seems to me the most peaceful occupation of all.”
We believe that literature possesses great power. It is a space for dialogue and memory, but also a place to demand truth and human dignity.
We stand with Ukraine, and we will not cease our support.
