Islands of Happiness | concert and audio play
About
“Islands of Happiness” is an event that is partly a concert, an audio theatre, and a story about an island floating in the Pacific Ocean. It is a place where the inhabitants are always cheerful, bright, and happy. Why does their good mood never leave them? The answer to this question can be found in songs interwoven with short stories. The pieces, based on traditional African melodies and rhythms, carry a positive, sun-filled message.
Although the story of the extraordinary island is fictional, it can serve as a metaphor for a reality in which every home, school, or community becomes an “island of happiness”. Certain clues and messages emerging from the songs and stories may find their reflection in the real world.
“Islands of Happiness” is performed live by the band Wielbłądy, whose music is primarily inspired by African blues. These rhythms and tones perfectly complement the positive message of the performance and the philosophy of the Hihans – the inhabitants of the floating fictional island about which the artists sing and tell stories.
On stage, in addition to guitar and harmonica, audiences will also hear original African sounds from instruments such as the ngoni, the gita, and the fula flute.
See you on the island!
