Royber Trio | outdoor concert
About
Royber Trio is a group made up of well-known figures from the Polish jazz and alternative music scenes. The trio features Mikołaj Trzaska (known, among others, for Miłość, Łoskot, and soundtracks for films by Wojciech Smarzowski), Olo Walicki (including Kaszëbë and Łoskot), and Macio Moretti (Mitch & Mitch, Baaba, LXMP, and many other projects).
The paths of these outstanding instrumentalists have crossed many times before (in the aforementioned Łoskot and, for example, the band Shofar), but Royber Trio marks a new and unique chapter for all three musicians. The starting point was Mikołaj’s compositions and themes originally written for cinema. This remarkable music from Smarzowski’s films, arranged here for saxophones, double bass, and drums, remains a constant – though by no means the only – element of their repertoire.
The artists quickly realized that they wanted to play more, resulting in the album “November,” released in 2026 by the acclaimed Instant Classic label. At the heart of the trio’s live performances are improvisation and attentive listening to one another. As the musicians themselves put it:
“The division between improvisation and composition is, in fact, artificial. Improvisation is nothing more than composition performed live.”
