Thanks to the Re:tradition – Jagiellonian Fair festival (August 21-23, Lublin), we will enjoy two vibrant evenings filled with traditional dance music. During our dance parties, the dance floor in front of the main stage will come alive with melodies from different regions of Poland. This time you can meet the bands performing on Saturday night – they’ll make it impossible to stand still!
The dance party (just as it used to be) will open with the Jagiellonian Fair Orchestra. To tunes drawn from the musical traditions of the Lublin region, we will begin with the chodzony before dancing to polkas, oberkas, podróżniaks, waltzes and foxtrots arranged by the orchestra and taken from the repertoire of legendary local bands and orchestras.
Immediately afterwards, Kapela Braci Dziobaków z Woli Destymflandzkiej will take the stage. Since 2007, its members – Ewa Grochowska, Edyta Piekarczyk and Krzysztof Butryn – have not only performed together but have also organised informal traditional music gatherings and now-legendary projects that created regular opportunities in Lublin to experience traditional dance music.
Next, Bodej Kapela will present its artistic manifesto: “Kujawiak, kujawiak and once again kujawiak!”. Fascinated by the music of the Kuyavia region, Marcin Lorenc, Katarzyna Rosik and Marta Domachowska have set out to bring historical repertoire into contemporary, vibrant dance settings.
The final band of the evening will be Zwieże, the de Latour family band, whose members describe their music with a simple and heartfelt statement: “We play what we like.” What they like most are melodies from the regions around Radom, Opoczno and Rawa, as well as oberkas and mazurkas associated with Jan Kędzierski, Marian Lipiec, the Gac family, the Łomża family, Fiderek and many other traditional musicians.
The dance parties are hosted by Ewa Grochowska.

And don’t forget that during Friday’s dance party, the performers will be: Rodzinna Orkiestra Burdalskich, Kapela Fedaków, Kapela Murchole and Kapela Niwińskich.

About the Re:tradition – Jagiellonian Fair festival
Re:tradition is an extraordinary festival of traditional music and craftsmanship. During three August days and nights, Lublin transforms into the capital of living traditional culture.
The festival program offers a wide range of attractions for both children and adults. It provides a unique opportunity to meet master artisans who, each year, showcase their exceptional handmade creations. Traditional music is also a key element of the Re:tradition festival, presented both in its authentic form and through the interpretations of contemporary artists.
The festival also features evening dance parties with live music, workshops, exhibitions, performances, film screenings, and meetings. Younger visitors can enjoy the Re:tradition Playground, where traditional games and pastimes are brought back to life.
The festival allows visitors to hear, see, touch, and experience folk culture, which during this time completely fills the streets of Lublin’s Old Town.
