CAL – Community Arts Lab

CAL is a project that recovers public spaces and gives then new important significance. The field of activities are common grounds, the parts in between, often overlooked and neglected. Using public spaces as sites of joint activities of residents and artists, we bring them back to light and common awareness.
 

CAL is an international interdisciplinary project focusing on using public spaces as sites of participation and cooperation. The idea behind the project are joint actions of the artist and animator with the local community, and the transformation of the role of the artist from a creator into a teacher and art guide, while the residents change from passive observers to active recipients and creators of culture.

The project aims at building dialogue between the local community living in different districts of Lublin and artists and culture animators. We want to engage the residents and draw attention to the vital role of the local community in creating cultural events and adapting public spaces.
