About

Literature, as an art form, predates cinema and has always had a significant influence on it. Suffice it to say that every film, at its inception, requires a script. The profession and role of the screenwriter have changed over the years, but a good idea, described in a solid, professional script, is still the absolute foundation of a successful film.

Screenwriters and directors frequently adapt literary works for the screen, sparking enduring debates among audiences about the merits of books versus films. While some literary originals prove challenging to translate cinematically, leading to dissatisfaction among authors, others, like Stephen King, embrace the process and actively collaborate on film adaptations. A notable example of the challenges of adaptation is Stanislaw Lem’s ‘Solaris,’ which faced critical scrutiny in Andrei Tarkovsky’s film version

Beyond traditional adaptations, the October film cycle also features biopics of literary figures, cinematic interpretations of comics and graphic novels, and even original films loosely inspired by book stories. This diverse selection promises to captivate audiences throughout the autumn months.
