About<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Magdalena Szubielska’s exhibition <\/strong>My Mum is keen on coffee and sleeping<\/em>, explores how easily we construct mistaken impressions of others based on limited information. It also addresses the issue of incorrect assumptions and expectations that arise when adapting to a new environment. The exhibition opens\u00a0 on Saturday, November 15th.<\/p>\n

“My mum is keen on coffee and sleeping.”<\/em>
A simple sentence \u2014 or maybe a mirror of how time, exhaustion, and daily rhythm shape our judgments. Does she really love coffee and sleep, or does she simply work at night, and the only things that matter in the morning are another half-hour of rest and a cup of black brew strong enough to restart the day?<\/p>\n

The exhibition looks at how appearances deceive us, how limited information\u00a0 about any individual, and not just Autists, can shape a complete, but mistaken story. \u00a0It also explores the process of adapting to new realities, where such misconceptions multiply.<\/p>\n

How much can we, or should we, debunk them? How do we reclaim the time and space to see others as they truly are?
These are the questions Magdalena Szubielska<\/strong> asks herself \u2014 and processes through the language of art.<\/p>\n

About the Artist<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Magdalena Szubielska (AKA Lejdi Szop)<\/strong> \u2013 a lover of coffee and sleeping. Mother of three daughters. An A*tist. Since October 2025, she has been a professor at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toru\u0144<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As a scientist, she explores cognitive psychology and empirical aesthetics \u2014 including imagination in blind individuals, aphantasia and creativity, the oculocentric bias in perception, emotions in art audiences, and the boundary between \u201cartistic\u201d and \u201clife\u201d modes of street art reception.<\/p>\n

As an artist, curator, and educator, she focuses on socially engaged art. She co-authored exhibitions about autism (A Song about My Family<\/em>, A<\/em>tists*), presented at Galeria Labirynt<\/strong> in Lublin (2022, 2023) and Galeria Epizod<\/strong> in Toru\u0144 (2024).<\/p>\n

Scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2017)<\/strong>, the Mayor of Lublin (2016, 2018, 2023)<\/strong>, and the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship (2017)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

About the Series<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The exhibition is part of the Spectrum of Art<\/em> series, within the Art of Sensitivity<\/em> project \u2014 co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage<\/strong> from the Culture Promotion Fund.<\/p>\n
