We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Folk Paper Cut-outs Lab: Digital Edition, an international initiative supported by the National Recovery Plan (KPO). This project serves as a unique platform for artistic dialogue between Poland, Belarus, and Ukraine, using traditional folk art as a bridge for cooperation.

For over 150 years, the wycinanka (paper cut-out) has been a vital element of Slavic rural culture. Once used to decorate village cottages for the holidays, these intricate designs are now being reimagined through a digital lens.

The Digital Shift Digital Experts: Aleksandra Artyszuk and Bartłomiej Polak.

From Paper to Pixels Animate their paper designs into moving digital art. The Climax: A Symbolic Table

The project culminates in a digital mapping installation presented during the Christmas season. In a deeply symbolic display, the animations will be projected onto a traditional white tablecloth. This flat, intimate presentation invites the audience to gather around “the table” as a community, witnessing the fusion of ancestral patterns and modern technology.

By moving these traditions online, the project ensures the resilience of folk art, allowing it to reach international audiences and survive even in times of crisis.

Financed by the European Union – NextGenerationEU – National Recovery Plan (KPO) for Culture.
