We are excited to announce that Ladytron, Stian Westerhus, and Nuha Ruby Ra will be the first of many unique artists to perform at East of Culture \u2013 Different Sounds in Lublin from July 6 to 9, 2023. As always, we are in for a real musical treat and the opportunity to experience unique music phenomena from all over the world. This year marks the 16th edition of Lublin\u2019s Different Sounds and its 10th<\/sup>\u00a0iteration as part of East of Culture, a project carried out by the National Centre for Culture in cooperation with three cities in eastern Poland \u2013 Lublin, Bia\u0142ystok, and Rzesz\u00f3w, with funds provided by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.<\/strong><\/p>\n


\n<\/strong>We are thrilled to kick off this year\u2019s announcements with the legendary British band Ladytron. Their upcoming concert in Lublin will undoubtedly be a unique experience, as they are icons of the international electronic music scene and have just released a new album. This will be their only concert in Poland, making it a must-see event. Ladytron, from Liverpool, , with their new romantic-style hits such as \u201eDestroy Everything You Touch\u201d and \u201eSeventeen\u201d will be one of the stars of this year\u2019s Different Sounds festival.<\/p>\n

In addition to Ladytron, we are excited to announce two original solo projects that represent different music styles but perfectly fit the philosophy and concept of our festival. The first is Stian Westerhus, an ingenious guitarist and producer who is active in bands such as Ulver, Jaga Jazzist, and Puma. He will be performing new original material in Lublin. The other is Nuha Ruby Ra, a rising star of the London indie scene. She is a lyricist and composer who creatively combines electronic music, hip hop, and heavier post-punk sounds. The future undoubtedly belongs to her, and she will confirm this at her concert in Lublin.<\/p>\n

About the artists<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ladytron<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a legendary British electronic band that combines pop, synth wave, shoegaze, and avant-garde sound experiments. The band consists of Helen Marnie (lead vocals, synthesizers), Mira Aroyo (vocals, synthesizers), Daniel Hunt (synthesizers, guitar, vocals), and Reuben Wu (synthesizers). Ladytron is a prime example of how one can intelligently and originally combine the qualities of a hit with creative, artistic explorations. The band was formed in Liverpool in 1999 and is a direct reference to one of Roxy Music\u2019s songs, one of the key inspirations for the artists. Brian Eno, who called Ladytron his favourite, described them as \u201ethe best of British pop music\u201d. Trent Reznor also gave the band high praise when he invited them to open the European concerts of Nine Inch Nails in 2007. Joint tours with Bjork or Goldfrapp were also very successful. Over the years, the band has recorded seven studio albums, with the latest one, \u201eTime\u2019s Arrow,\u201d having been released only a few months ago to enthusiastic reviews. At their upcoming concert in Lublin, the band will present material from this album, but hits from over 20 years of their career are sure to appear too.<\/p>\n

Stian Westerhus<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 a Norwegian experimental guitarist and producer. He is known for his work in many bands, including Jaga Jazzist, Ulver, and Puma. He can fluently switch between genres and aesthetics while maintaining his characteristic, original style. In his solo work, he explores jazz, noise, electronic music, and ambient, but he also composes darker music in the spirit of dark wave. He recorded his first albums for the iconic label Rune Grammofon, and subsequent ones for House of Mythology or All Ice Records, among others. His latest solo album is set to release in 2023, and he is sure to present it to audiences in Lublin. Westerhus\u2019 concerts are an incredible experience of sounds and various ways of their processing.<\/p>\n

Nuha Ruby Ra<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013a London-based vocalist, author, and composer who is recognised as one of the biggest hopes of the contemporary British scene. She has performed at Glastonbury and the biggest international showcases, such as The Great Escape, SXSW, or Reeperbahn. Last year, she performed with, among others, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Yard Act, and Viagra Boys. Her style is a mix of original lyrics, electronic music, hip hop, post-punk, and grunge. In addition to her solo work, the artist is also active in the alternative band Arrows of Love. Visuals are an important part of her output, including carefully directed concept music videos and video art elements at concerts.<\/p>\n

More details will be announced soon, including updates on the music line-up, films, exhibitions, panels, literary premieres, events for children and young people, and workshops and discussions for music professionals.<\/p>\n
