About

We invite you to a new class led by Marta Urban-Burdalska as part of “Elementarz tradycji”. What was autumn like in the Polish countryside in the past? What did people sing at the end of the harvest, and what exactly were plon, równianka and przepiórka?

When the harvest came to an end, it was time for plon – one of the important moments in the traditional ritual year. Harvesters prepared wreaths and równianki, and on their way to the farmer they were accompanied by harvest songs.

The animals returned from the pastures, and farm life moved indoors – autumn had its own rhythm, songs and rituals.

During the workshop:
🌾 we will sing traditional harvest songs,
🐄 we will learn songs and games about farm animals,
🌾 we will find out what plon, równianka and przepiórka were in different regions of Poland,
🌾 we will make our own harvest decoration from grain.

About the instructor

Marta Urban-Burdalska – traditional singer and psychologist working with a somatic approach. A certified trainer of the Polish Psychological Association and creator of IN THE FLOW – voice, body, songs from tradition. She learned to sing directly from village musicians and their families, including the Gac and Met families. She sings, leads workshops, facilitates dancing, and plays the double bass and frame drum. She creates educational and artistic projects that bring traditional songs and music back into shared singing and intergenerational encounters. She initiated, among others, Laboratorium Zabaw Tradycyjnych, Introit and Rodzinna Orkiestra Burdalskich. She comes from Lublin and a multigenerational farming family, and lives in Olsztyn. Mother of three musical children.
