An adaptation of Vampire Story, a famous stage play by Moira Buffini. Buffini created the screenplay herself and the camera went to the master of ambitious genre cinema – Neil Jordan. This Irish director, who has made such excellent works as “The Crying Game” or “Breakfast on Pluto”, has accustomed the audience to intriguing, engaging and multilayered stories. He is also familiar with horror cinema, as evidenced by such titles as “The company of wolves” or the greatest hit in the artist’s filmography, the legendary “Interview with the Vampire”. In “Byzantium” Jordan returns to vampire themes, this time focusing on women. It is a story of two young women – Clara (Gemma Arterton) and Eleanor (Saoirse Ronan), who find shelter in a declining seaside resort. With the appearance of beautiful strangers, strange things happen in the town.
