Memento Mori Dance Club | concert
About
On the first night of December, embark on a unique musical journey. Re:tradition – The Jagiellonian Fair Festival presents Memento Mori Dance Club (MMDC). They’ll transport you to the heart of old Polish-Lithuanian folk music, where sacred and secular, life and death intertwine in a mesmerizing dance.
This experimental group blends traditional music, historical research, and free improvisation. They’ve unearthed forgotten songs from the Renaissance, where solemn hymns meet lively dance rhythms. How could such sacred melodies become the soundtrack to joyful dances like the polonaise and mazurka? Was it the people’s innate musicality, or a deliberate attempt to infuse religious texts with danceable rhythms?
Join the MMDC as they delve into the past, unraveling the mysteries behind these ancient hymns. Through meticulous research and innovative performances, they invite you to join their journey. Listen, sing, and contemplate the eternal.
