“Meow & Beyond” – An Exhibition of Andrzej Kot’s Creative Work

On February 17th, 2025, which just so happens to be World Cat Day and the 10th anniversary of the passing of the extraordinary Lublin artist Andrzej Kot, we invite you to the grand opening of an exhibition showcasing his unique and captivating work.

Andrzej Kot (1946–2015) – A Master of Letters and Wit

Andrzej Kot was a graphic artist, calligrapher, typesetter, and typographer—a true lover of letters, illustration, and satire. Renowned for his ex libris designs, custom alphabets, posters, and functional prints, his work graced the pages of prestigious publications in Germany, Japan, and the USA.

One of his greatest achievements was the inclusion of his alphabets—Ot-Kot, Lot Kot, Iza, and Kozina—in the renowed art monograph Das Alphabet. Die Bildwelt der Buchstaben von A bis Z, edited by Joseph Kiermeier-Debre and Fritz Franz Vogel, published in Munich in 1995. This recognition solidified his place in the world of typography and design, celebrating his playful yet masterful approach to letters.

Andrzej Kot’s artistic journey began with a splash at the International Biennial of Applied Graphics in Brno (1978) and the Biennial of Ex Libris in Malbork (1979). His mastery of the exlibris form earned him a gold medal at the International Biennial of Contemporary Ex Libris in Malbork (1981). His work also found a place in the prestigious “Scriptura Calendar” of the Gutenberg Museum in Germany. Throughout the 1980s, Kot’s sharp wit and satirical perspective were evident in his participation (via mail) in several Biennials of Humor and Satire in Gabrovo, Bulgaria, and the Biennial of Applied Graphics in Brno. He also received an honorable mention in the exlibris competition in Torgiano, Italy. Kot’s captivating art was exhibited internationally in locations such as Hamburg, Rodental, Mainz, and Heidelberg (Germany), Illinois (USA), Oxford (UK), and Japan.
