Midsommar | Miasto Movie
dir. Ari Aster, runtime:147′, 2020.
In 2018, Ari Aster showed the world his controversial film Hereditary, which launched his international career. This early work already revealed his great potential, the boldness of his vision, his unwillingness to compromise and his original, dark style. “Midsommar” underscores these qualities and further develops Aster’s distinctive language. The story revolves around young Americans. Among them is Dani (Florence Pugh), who is trying to cope with a family tragedy. They decide to accept the invitation of their Swedish friend to participate in a traditional folk ritual associated with the summer solstice. The trip to the isolated north of Scandinavia will change their lives forever. In his film, Aster innovatively mixes horror with psychological drama and adds a dash of macabre humour. “Midsommer” is a trance-like experience and one of the most original films of recent years.
