The Beach | Miasto Movie
dir. Danny Boyle, runtime 119′, 2000
This dystopian tale by Danny Boyle is set in the stunning landscape of Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. This time, the director of the legendary “Trainspotting” invites his audience to a remote / isolated tropical island that seems like paradise. Our guide is a young American named Richard (portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio). Bored and disillusioned with today’s world, he convinces a French couple to leave civilization behind and find a mysterious island where a perfect community supposedly lives in peace and harmony. But no sooner do they arrive than they notice the dark side and the laws that prevail in the commune led by the charismatic Sal (Tilda Swinton). In this film, Boyle wonders if an idyllic and peaceful society is possible without neglecting the solid rules of a good adventure film.
