Wędrowiec | concert
Re:tradition – The Jagiellonian Fair Festival continues to captivate audiences with its year-round programming. This time, join us to experience the extraordinary sounds of Wędrowiec, a band that pushes the boundaries of traditional folk music.
Wędrowiec is a musical ensemble that masterfully blends traditional Polish folk music with contemporary elements. Drawing inspiration from the compositions of Oskar Kolberg and archival recordings, they breathe new life into ancient melodies, reinterpreting them in a fresh and innovative way. Far from treating this music as a museum piece, Wędrowiec infuses it with contemporary sounds and improvisations. Inspired by minimal music and theatrical experiences, their performances are more than just concerts or reconstructions of ancient rituals; they are sonic journeys that bridge the gap between past and present.
Prior to forming Wędrowiec, the band members were involved in various musical projects such as Księżyc, Bractwo Ubogich, Kapela Domu Tańca, Kołowrót, and Pies Szczeka.
Since their debut in 2003, Wędrowiec has gained recognition both nationally and internationally. In 2004, they won first prize at the “New Tradition” Folk Festival, organized by Polish Radio. Over the years, Wędrowiec has performed at notable events such as the European Broadcasting Union Workshops at Polish Radio, the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw, the Rozstaje Festival in Kraków, and various venues in Sweden, Germany, and France, as well as the Tabor festival in Szczebrzeszyn/ In 2009, the group recorded a demo titled Wędrują nuk nieuzywają, later released by Requiem Records in 2019. Most recently, in 2023, they won first prize at the True Musicians’ Tournament, a festival organized by the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic in Szczecin.
