Backyard Circus

Backyard Circus is a project of Carnaval Sztukmistrzów, which is very popular among the inhabitants of Lublin. It is an itinerant circus that travels to districts outside the city centre and offers a taste of the festival.

It’s an annual itinerant circus featuring performers from Poland and around the world, aimed at residents of neighbourhoods outside Lublin’s city centre. The first edition in 2015 was met with great interest.

Backyard Circus refers to small itinerant circus troupes travelling from town to town, from one district to another, from one backyard to another. Groups of these vagabond circus performers presented short circus acts accompanied by music, satisfying the cultural needs of residents of townhouses and poorer boroughs. The programme usually included elements of acrobatics, equilibristics, demonstrations of strength, illusion, and juggling. Often the performances were supplemented by ribald jokes or songs. The performances encouraged the residents to donate some money to the troupes. The circus consists of a number of interesting artists with rich experience in street arts, who present their acts in 8 districts of the city a few days before Carnaval Sztukmistrzów. Laughter and thrills guaranteed!
