Godflesh and Lean Left are the first acts of the fast approaching festival East of Culture – Different Sounds. Though times are turbulent, we believe that between 7-10 July we will be able to enjoy many fantastic performances by artists from both East and West. This year marks the 15th edition of Different Sounds and the 9th time the festival is held as part of East of Culture, a joint initiative of the National Centre for Culture, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, and the local authorities of Lublin, Białystok, and Rzeszów.
About the bands
The British band Godflesh are considered a legend in industrial metal and post-metal along with Ministry, who visited Lublin in 2019. Ben Green and Justin Broadrick formed the band in Birmingham in the late 1980s and blew the music industry away with their debut album, „Streetrcleaner”. Though this legendary album is over 30 years old, it has stood the test of time. It is still as ominous and fresh as ever. Godflesh’s powerful, uncompromising sounds, the use of the drum machine, excursions into electronic music and dub – all these elements make the band one of a kind. Avalanche Recording released the band’s most recent album, „Post Self,” in 2017, but Justin Broadrick has stated that a new studio album is coming in 2022. Godflesh will cover a wide variety of their music at the Lublin show.
Lean Left is an extraordinary quartet featuring two guitarists from the legendary band The Ex – Terrie Hessels and Andy Moor, the saxophonist Ken Vandermark – an icon and one of the world’s leading free jazz figures, plus the versatile Paal Nilsson-Love on drums. The band’s punk-jazz fusion with a dash of noise, rock’n’roll and blistering free improvisation in combination with the charisma and stage experience of the musicians produces positively electrifying effects. Lean Left’s concerts are one-of-a-kind, unforgettable experiences. The imaginative spirit and the love of experimentation of all the members make every concert a unique experience, a musical tour de force. As we will see in Lublin in July, Lean Left is a perfect fit for Different Sounds both musically and conceptually.
This announcement is accompanied by comic strips introducing our artists. The comics are the work of Maciej Pałka, a visual artist, illustrator, and award-winning creator of graphic novels. They will present this year’s stars in inventive and original ways. Additionally, limited edition posters will soon be available in our online store.
Look forward to more announcements about concerts and non-musical events, including excellent films, exhibitions, panel discussions and book launches, activities for children, and workshops for music industry professionals.
