Dźwiękownia / SoundSpace is a series of events devoted to sound in all of its forms and manifestations. We will investigate sound as a physical, cultural, and social phenomenon with the help of invited experts.
We’ll talk about:
– sound and music-oriented practises and places
– hearing and listening as a way of experiencing the world
– sound production, direction, and audibility mediated via diverse media
This year, we intend to hold six meetings. to take place once a month. Each time, we will focus on a new topic, ranging from how we emit and receive sounds to how we search for and process them. Experts from many sound-related fields will explore these issues, including artists, audiologists, and audiophiles, directors and reporters, phoniatricians and voice-over narrators, researchers, and journalists. The debates in such an interdisciplinary setting will allow us to hear a fascinating polyphony and shift our viewpoint on the things that surround us. The sessions will be accompanied by workshops, concerts, and soundwalks.
“Dźwiękownia” / SoundSpace has been organised by Workshops of Culture in Lublin in cooperation with the Department of Media Theory at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.
Dźwiękownia | From ear to sound
Join us for the inaugural meeting of “Dźwiękownia” / SoundSpace on Saturday, April 23. Dr. Marek Zadroniak (laryngologist, audiologist, and phoniatrician) and Wacaw Zimpel (composer and multi-instrumentalist) will be our guests, and they will discuss how human hearing works.
Our new “Dźwiękownia” / MysoundSpace series of sound-related events begins with a discussion on the anatomy and physiology of hearing, as well as the phenomenon of sound’s musicality. We’ll delve inside the human ear with phoniatrician and laryngologist Marek Zadroniak to learn how it works and what it means to hear. Wacław Zimpel will lead us into the realm of musical hearing. Following a brief presentation of key concerns for their respective professions, our guests will participate in a sound-focused debate. Whether you’re a die-hard audiophile, a musician, an audiologist, or a sound researcher, you’ll definitely get something out of this session.
After the debate, join us for Wacław Zimpel’s concert. Both events are free.
