The Little Orchestra of The Jagiellonian Fair
The Little Orchestra of The Jagiellonian Fair is a group of the youngest music lovers. They learn and play traditional tunes from the Lublin region under the guidance of experienced instructors. The rehearsals, which take place throughout the year, prepare the young musicians for their performance at the festival in August.
Anyone who has attended the Jagiellonian Fair at least once knows how much energy and joy comes from traditional music. It invites everyone to make music together, spend time, make new friends and have fun. We’ve created The Little Orchestra of The Jagiellonian Fair, intending to instil in children a passion for learning and continuing the musical traditions of the Lublin region. The first edition in 2019 was conducted by Maciej Filipczuk. From 2020, the orchestra will be conducted by Przemysław Łozowski.
The project is aimed at children aged 9 and over who own an instrument and have mastered the basics of playing. Participants learn dance tunes (polkas, obereks, ride tunes), ritual songs (Christmas carols, pastorales ) and children’s folklore (old songs, recreational activities). They learn to play by ear, which brings them closer to the way music used to be passed down from generation to generation, from the master to the student. The Orchestra’s rehearsals also give the children the opportunity to develop their musical sensitivity and the habit of making music in a community.
