Fact-checking – culture in a world of disinformation | Inkubator Kultury

About the event

How can you verify information and communicate responsibly with your audience? What can be done to ensure that culture and our institutions are spaces full of reliable information? Are there still reliable sources of knowledge about the world in the present day?

During the next workshop as part of this year’s Inkubator Kultury at the Workshops of Culture, we invite you to confront disinformation as a challenge that tests both us and our activities every day. The training programme will be tailored to the day-to-day work of the cultural sector, taking into account the specificities of our region and the social tensions exploited in disinformation narratives.

During the practical workshop session, participants will have the opportunity to examine the mechanisms of disinformation and manipulation. We will examine what fact-checking looks like in practice by looking at the sources, authorship, dates and context of publications. We will verify quotes, data and headlines. We will also consider whether it is easy for us to verify the authenticity of images, videos and AI-generated content today.

We will also devote a lot of space to specific forms of disinformation that affect culture and local communities, as well as to responsible communication carried out by institutions or organisations in the cultural sector. We will also discuss the role of cultural institutions as venues for media education.

Form and organisation of the training

The training will include a short introduction, analysis of examples, exercises using free tools, group work and simulations of communication situations. Participants will receive electronic materials: a checklist for verifying information, a toolkit and a template for a procedure for responding to false information about institutions.

Participants in the workshop are kindly requested to bring their phones or laptops, which will be necessary for completing the exercise tasks.

Programme

Inkubator Kultury

The workshops are a part of Inkubator Kultury, a comprehensive development programme for culture sector professionals. After several years away, it has returned to Workshops of Culture to continue supporting people working in culture and initiating new activities that expand the city’s cultural offering.

In September, we launched a comprehensive training programme for a selected group of participants. Now we are opening up a series of workshops to the public, supporting cultural life organisers in further areas related to their work.

Inkubator Kultury is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage as part of the National Centre for Culture’s Kultura – Interwencje programme. 2026 Edition.
