Pain and Glory | Miasto Movie

dir. Pedro Almodovar, runtime 113′, 2019

Description

Pedro Almodóvar has been a key figure in global cinema for nearly 50 years and is one of its undisputed masters. Throughout his long artistic journey, he has explored various themes, but his works are predominantly filled with intense, often extreme, emotions of the characters. The second characteristic ingredient of the Spaniard’s cinema is his love for art, especially cinematography. Hence many of his films have authothematic elements. In “Pain and Glory”, Almodovar tells the story of a prominent, yet now somewhat forgotten film director Salvador Mallo (the wonderful Antonio Banderas). We meet him when a certain well-known film festival plans to present a retrospective of his work. It forces the artist to examine his past and deal with unfinished business.
