About

This five-day intensive workshop will focus on music, movement, theatre techniques, circus, and clowning. The workshop is designed for circus artists, musicians, and actors who are interested in clowning, incorporating music on stage, and engaging in musical theater activities.

What can you expect from the workshop?

This event will provide an introduction to movement exercises coupled with music, sound, and rhythm, as well as basic clowning techniques. These techniques serve as a foundation for exploring emotions, stage presence, and expanding ways of expression. By engaging in activities mainly centred around games and lighthearted scenarios, we aim to foster a safe and imaginative environment. This approach will heighten our understanding of our individual potential and the impact we have on the audience as performers.

Exercises will be conducted individually, in pairs, and in both small and large groups. Members and directors of the Kejos collective, Marta Kuczyńska and Jacek Timingeriu, will guide the participants in creating music and movement-based acts based on their own ideas. These projects will be showcased during a workshop performance.

Results of the workshop

The outcome of the workshops will be to develop or refine ideas for new circus performances. The most captivating workshop projects or acts will qualify for next stages of the Polish Incident project in 2024. They will receive our support in implementing their performance idea, and the best productions will have the opportunity to premiere at Carnaval Sztukmistrzów in 2024.

Who can participate in the workshop?

We welcome artists who are interested in exploring the fusion of circus and theater through clowning techniques and music. Our invitation extends to those who are looking to develop their own concepts for a performance, study, or collaborative creative project.

Please send your artistic portfolio, a short biography or CV, a description of your idea for a performance or act, and a description of your needs, optionally video materials related to the proposed idea. Bios

Marta Kuczyńska is a performer, actress, juggler, director, producer, instructor, and curator. She has been training, performing, and participating in artistic projects domestically and internationally since 2000. She graduated from the Academy of Theatre Arts in Brno, Czech Republic, with a degree in Clowning, Movement Theatre, and Film. She also completed programmes at the “Gardzienice” Centre for Theatre Practices and the Cracow School of Screenwriting. She specialises in creating and directing performances in the field of new circus and movement theatre, as well as working with objects on stage. She is a co-founder and president of Kejos Theatre Association, which has been working to popularise the idea of New Circus as an art form since 2004. She is one of the founders and co-leaders of a theater group called Kolektyw KEJOS (Kejos Collective). She is a co-creator of the first theatre and circus festivals in Poland: Central European Theatre and Circus Meetings in Wrocław and a long-term artistic curator of the Carnaval Sztukmistrzów in Lublin. She established the New Circus Center at CBK Fama in Wrocław, a dedicated space for both professionals and amateurs of the new circus. She works as a performer with the Czerwone Noski Klown W Szpitalu foundation and is also continuing her education at the International School of Humour in Vienna.

Jacek Timingeriu is a director, musician, performer, and instructor. He works with new circus and theatre, primarily collaborating with independent groups such as Kolektyw KEJOS, the “Gardzienice” Center for Theatre Practices, and the Anna Zubrzycki Studio. He also directs and collaborates on performances with institutional theatres. For example, he directed “The Sock Sovereign” at the Puppet and Actor Theatre in Wałbrzych, and “Tales from a Fictional Circus” at the Zagłębie Jan Dorman Children’s Theatre in Będzin. For many years, he has been working with children and teenagers in various cultural projects, including the New Circus Centre in Wrocław, the “Brave Kids” project, “Lelenfant,” and many others. He works as a performer with the Czerwone Noski Klown W Szpitalu foundation. He is both a co-creator and a member of the family musical band called “Kapela Timingeriu.” They perform in Poland and internationally.
