Talbotype – salted paper process | Photography Studio

About

Talbotype (calotype) technique was introduced in 1839 by William Fox Talbot. During the workshop, participants will independently prepare light-sensitive photographic paper using, among other materials, salt, gelatin, citric acid, silver nitrate, and watercolor paper. On this specially prepared salt paper, they will make prints by placing a negative featuring views of Lublin. After the visit, participants can take their prints home.

The meeting will be held in a small, intimate group, allowing each participant to work independently with the technique, ask questions freely, and receive individual support.

The workshop will be led by Roman Kravchenko – a respected historian, photographer, and educator from Ukraine. Since 2015, he has been running the Photography Workshop in Zaułek Hartwigów. The artist not only creates photographs using historic photographic processes, but also preserves their legacy and introduces new generations to the methods once used in photography. A visit to Roman’s studio is more than posing for a camera lens – it is an opportunity to explore the history of photography, discover how cameras from the late 19th and early 20th centuries worked, and step inside a traditional darkroom. Under the guidance of an experienced photographer, participants can also take part in developing their own photographs.

The workshop is also open to people with no prior experience in photography.
