Edward Hartwig’s Lublin as a treasure trove of photographic subjects – walk | Photography Studio

About

Lublin, the Old Town, the Jewish quarter, was a treasure trove of photography […]. Podzamcze, speaking from the perspective of a sensitive person, was brilliant for painting, for photography, […] these costumes, these clothes; overgrown and bearded faces, very poor cottages in Podzamcze. In fact, everything started at the Grodzka Gate. Shoemakers and tailors lived there; they had some corner to sleep in, literally a corner, and in fact they worked outdoors. […] At the same time, there was beautiful architecture, there was an interesting setting, movement in the streets, trade in small shops and on the streets. Makagigi made from poppy seeds were sold, as well as pickled apples displayed in large barrels, sauerkraut and various specialties that could only be bought from Jewish people, of course herring etc. All of this was displayed in front of the entrance to the house, in the street.
