Escape to Victory | Miasto Movie
About the film
An extended football-oriented storyline and a star cast make this a classic work of war cinema. It was directed by John Huston, one of the great masters of film narrative, and starred Michael Caine, Max von Sydow, and Sylvester Stallone. The film is set in World War II in a German prison camp where prisoners from various countries are held. They include prominent soccer players, so the warden decides to put on an exhibition match between Germany and the prisoners. This meeting is clearly intended to humiliate the captives and win a glorious victory for the Nazis. However, it might also be an excellent opportunity for the prisoners to escape. Even years later, “Victory” remains a perfectly shot, storied film that is always a pleasure to watch. Significantly, the film features outstanding supporting performances by football icons of the time, including Pele, Bobby Moore, and Polish Kazimierz Deyna.
