The Girl with the Needle | Miasto Movie
About the movie
Recognised with nominations for Oscars and Golden Globes, among others, Magnus von Horn’s disturbing, hypnotic film is undoubtedly one of the most interesting films in contemporary European cinema.
The main character of this story, which takes place just after the First World War, is Karoline, a young worker at one of the factories in Copenhagen. A girl’s life is not the easiest, and it becomes even more complicated when she becomes pregnant. Abandoned by the father of her child and left without any means of support, she unexpectedly receives help from the mysterious Dagmar. The women establish a rapport, and for a moment it seems that Karoline has a chance for a better tomorrow. However, it quickly becomes apparent that in this harsh world, everything has its price, and Dagmar is hiding a dark, terrifying secret.
In addition to the story itself, the film’s strengths also include the excellent cinematography by Michał Dymek.
