Extended live printing – visual DJ-ing | workshop for children and young people
About the event
We invite you to a relaxed and experimental live printing workshop, during which participants will discover screen printing as a tool for creative play, composition and the exploration of their own visual language.
For the purposes of the classes, 4-5 stencils will be prepared – two or three with original graphics and the others with neutral colour patches, stripes, patterns and simple shapes. Participants in the workshop will be able to freely combine individual motifs, superimpose them on each other and create their own unique compositions from them. Each matrix will become part of a larger visual puzzle, and the process itself will resemble a kind of ‘visual DJ-ing’ – mixing images, colours and textures in real time.
During the workshop, we will talk about the screen printing technique and its history, and then we will move on to practical work. The work will be carried out without exposing the plates, which will allow a focus on spontaneous experimentation and direct creation. At the same time, the solutions applied will leave the participants room for their own creativity and individual composition of the image.
Three reasons why it’s worth signing your class up for a workshop
- Two hours of focused, creative hands-on work await the children, away from smartphones and social media.
- Participants will take home unique, self-designed and printed works, which is incredibly satisfying.
- This is an opportunity to try out a real graphic technique in a relaxed atmosphere, to develop your imagination and to spend time in an interesting way with your peers.
The classes are inspired by an exhibition of illustrations on hygiene by Estera Mrówka, which, in a light-hearted, humorous and imaginative way, encourages young children to take a look at everyday rituals related to caring for cleanliness and well-being.
About the instructor
Estera Mrówka – a visual artist based between Kraków and Warsaw. She has always gravitated toward workshops – first an automotive one, where her cousins tinkered with machinery, and later a printmaking studio, where she works with paints, emulsions, and paper. A graduate of the Printmaking Department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, she is currently professionally affiliated with her alma mater. In her art, she seeks to address significant themes with a touch of humor and lightness. She experiments with form and format while centering her practice on the traditional printmaking technique of screen printing.
